A message from the chair of our management committee:

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Pauline Wright and I am chair of the C.A.B Management Committee in Tamworth.

Could you help?"I was appointed Chair in October 2000, after some years serving on the committee. This coincided with my early retirement from my job of work within the Courts Service.

"No coincidence at all really - I trained to be a C.A.B volunteer in the mid-1970s, and due to a conflict between my paid employment in the Courts Service and my work as a volunteer seeing the general public, I joined the Management Committee in 1985 and have been there ever since.

"My retirement from my paid work enabled me to consider taking on the Chair of the Committee.

"Why don't you come and join us? We are a small, friendly committee, no salary, but the knowledge that Tamworth needs a Citizens Advice Bureau in the town spurs us on.

"We meet in the evenings, about every six weeks.

"Are you good at P.R? We need a good publicity person - is that you?

"We are like-minded, dedicated individuals who wish to ensure C.A.B continues to have a place in the town to assist those people who need our help. We constantly need new blood and new ideas.

"The Committee is made up of representatives of both the paid and voluntary workers from the Bureau, elected individuals, representatives from local organisations, and Tamworth Borough Council, as our main funder, with three councillors attending meetings at the present time.

"The Committee does not manage the Bureau on a daily basis; rather we oversee the smooth running of the Bureau, are responsible for the staff members and ensuring the funding is available for C.A.B to continue.
